Our palm sized glaze sample dishes (approx. 3.5” diameter by 1” deep) have a spiral pattern in the center to display the tonal range of each glaze. Glazes that are more fluid and transparent display a wider tonal range, and glazes that are matte and opaque display a more muted tonal range. Also, it is important to decide whether you want your glaze on porcelain or stoneware. The same glaze can look very different on a stoneware versus a porcelain clay-body. Stoneware glazes are characterized by warm tones and random iron speckling, while porcelain glazes display a cooler range of tones and a silky smooth fleck free surface. Carefully examining our range of glaze samples will illustrate these points. We encourage you to order these individual glaze sample dishes if you are uncertain as to which sink glaze will best meet your needs.
